Jay
My name is Jay, and I have been working with Alan Edwards Salons for over a decade now. In that time, I have had a plethora of experiences in commercial hairdressing, education, and editorial work.
In my salon work, I focus on wavy and curly textures, mullet and shag haircuts, and low-maintenance, seamless colour work. I have a diverse clientele, with people of all ages, gender identities, and backgrounds coming to my chair. I’m just as at home with long, luminously blonded hair as I am with a blue shaggy haircut. I’m proficient in clipper work, with many of my male clients get short, clippered undercuts contrasting with soft, disheveled texture on top.
I love a challenge, so if you want something more alternative, my Instagram DMs are always open for a chat.
I am a trainer in the salon, and bringing on the next generations of AES talent has been a pleasure and point of pride for me over the last few years. I am also a lecturer at City of Glasgow College. This work is greatly rewarding, and I love watching people go from the start of their hairdressing journey to becoming skilled and confident stylists. I’m currently on the prestigious L’Oréal ID Artist programme. In 2025, I was one of 12 applicants selected to join this highly lauded team. ID Artist provides me with many amazing training opportunities, as well as backstage and editorial work around the UK. Most recently, I was backstage at the Edinburgh College of Fashion grad show, which was such a fun, creative experience. As part of the programme, we are set creative challenges by our team leaders. I’m currently working in a sub-unit of the ID team to create a showcase for the L’Oréal Academy in London. I am also the Kérastase Care Coach within the salon. I am trained in the K-Scan microscope and have spent some time in trichology training. So, if you have any scalp, hair loss issues or concerns, you can book a consult with me. In this appointment, we can have a look at your scalp under the microscope and see if we can get to the bottom of any worries you may have. You may think hair loss is inevitable, but with the right program, we may be able to slow it down considerably. I was named Best Male Stylist at the 2025 Scottish Hair and Beauty Awards. For me, this was a moment where years of training, hard work, and the encouragement and generosity of my mentors all culminated in this one lovely moment of recognition. If you like talking books, Glasgow food spots, skiing, or running, then I may well be the guy for you! Why not check out my work for yourself on Instagram: @Jayhanlinhair
